A year ago, the family of Vienna Irwin, suffered the unimaginable, the most tragic loss any parent could face. Their 2 year old daughter, Vienna, was called to heaven. It was not her time to go. The family is left with no answers as to what happened to Vienna and most importantly, why.
I met the Irwin family, by chance through a mutual acquaintance on social medial. A maker friend of mine, who happens to be Vienna's auntie, shared their story of what happened to her wee little niece. As a parent my self, I was heartbroken by their story and knew I wanted to send Vienna's parents, Claire and Clay as many memorial candles as they needed so they could always leave a light on for V. Though we've never met in person, I feel as though we've been friends all along.
While searching for answers, the Irwin family has created a space to remember and honor their daughter in their home town, a pollinating garden for butterflies. The butterfly, a symbol used quite often by Claire and Clay has been transformed into beautiful memorial treasures by local makers to remember Vienna and to show support to her family and community, that has been shaken to the core.
